House of Hades
By: Rick Riordan
This six weeks I read the book House of Hades by Rick Riordan. This is the fourth book in the Heroes of Olympus series Uncle Rick is currently writing. It was copyrighted in 2013 and published by Disney Hyperion Books. The date of release was Oct. 8th, 2013. The Heroes of Olympus series is a mythological fiction book series based on seven demigods who are supposedly supposed to save the world and Olympus from Gaea (Goddess of the Earth) and her children the giants. The seven demigods are Piper Mclean , Leo Valdez, Hazel Lavesque, Percy Jackson (former character), Annabeth Chase (former character) , Jason Grace, and Frank Zhang. In this book the seven teen demigods face problems varying from monsters to angry gods to regular relationship problems. The book is about Percy and Annabeth trying to get through Tartarus to find their way to the Doors of Death. Meanwhile the others try to get to the other side of the Doors and try to save Percy and Annabeth. Will they survive? Will they get to the Doors in time, or will they die trying? I think the theme could be that teamwork and determination is the key to success.
In the book Uncle Rick wrote the story in the point of view of every one of the seven demigods. Every other chapter changed point of views so it was hard to follow at first but then you get the hang of it. To me the book was probably intended for people 10 years and older. The vocabulary was not very hard so it was easy enough for a 10 year old to read, and the plot and story was interesting enough for an older person to read. The genre is more of a mythological fiction and the story fits in because it states all different types of gods and creatures that are from roman and greek mythology. Uncle Rick uses a lot of plot twists and cliffhangers throughout the book which keeps you from putting it down. I can bet you that there was not one scene that was boring in this book from how full of action the whole book was. The cliffhangers and foreshadowing probably made most of the people reading this book not want to put it down.
This book basically made my head explode in a lot of the chapters. If you are a big fan of Rick Riordan's work you might understand. This book made me laugh out loud, almost cry, and yell out during class (which would result in embarrassment). I get kind of emotional with books if I really get into them. The book did not change many views in my life other than that you should live life to its fullest because you never know when you might die. The book did remind me of another series called Daughters of the Moon by Lynne Ewig because they both involve mythology and they both have a lot of life or death situations.
Overall I really really enjoyed this book and would recommend this book to anyone who has read the whole series. The book has romance, terror, humor, and suspension and it makes the book a huge success. The element of plot and foreshadowing really increases the quality of the work in this book and really makes it one of the best books I've read.
