Divergent

I read Divergent for my book project. The author of this book is Veronica Roth and the first copyright date was xxx. Beatrice or Tris, as she later changes it to is a girl that turns 16 and then has to choose a faction for her future but her aptitude test showed weird results. She turns out to be divergent, which is when you have three test results. She chooses a faction but bad things start happening to her old faction which she then will try and help. This book is science fiction, dystopian, and a little romance. The theme of this book is figuring out who you are. After the aptitude test, which is the test where you figure out what faction you should be in you have to choose. When Tris have to choose, it really shows that you really have to figure out who you are. Because of the factions, you have to really be yourself to choose.

Divergent is told in Tris's point of view and it is told in chronological order. Tris is 16 and lives in the faction Abnegation, the selfless. She takes the aptitude test and it shows weird results. It said she was Divergent, which means that there wasn’t just one answer for her test but three, Erudite: the clever, Abnegation: the selfless, and the Dauntless: the brave. She chooses dauntless as her new faction where she never will be able to see her family again. Her brother, Caleb chose Erudite. She leaves her faction and everybody then has to pass the institution, which is the test where they will see if you are eligible. She passes and then there is weird things going on with her old faction. A war starts between the Erudite and the Abnegation. The erudite brainwashed the Dauntless and makes them fight but not Tris. The genre of this book is probably science fiction and dystopian. I think that is science fiction because this is a world that would not happen in this century but maybe a long time in the future. It is Dystopian because it is a terrible society they live in. what would you do if you couldn’t be able to see your family again? It is horrible and that is why it is dystopian. There is also a little romance in this book between Tris and Four “Tobias.”

The book really made me think about what a world we are glad that we don’t live in. Think if you had to choose a place to live and then never see your family again. It in a way made me feel a little sad for her but at the same time, you are the one who gets to choose. I feel like that you have to be a combination of what the five factions have, bravery, smartness, peaceful, selfless, and telling the truth. I think that those are very good things to think about in your daily life. I had some ideas that because of this book I changed. I thought that you really had to think about others but at the same time also yourself. This was just a theory I had, but this book made me really believe that it is what you are supposed to do. It made me think of the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and also The Maze Runner by James Dasher. The three of those books have a lot in common. They all share a terrible world that the main characters live in. The Hunger Games where there is the Game, The Maze Runner where there is the Glade, and then there is Divergent where there is the Factions.

                I think this book is amazing and I think you should read it because it is so well written and there is just so many amazing ideas in it.
